Botox® is an injectable compound which when injected into a specific area binds itself to receptors within the targeted muscle. This process decreases the ability of the muscle to contract and thus diminishes the visibility of the wrinkle that would form when the muscle would otherwise contract.

WHAT IS BOTOX®?
Botox® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe frown lines and wrinkles. Botox® successfully treats wrinkles that are caused by muscle contraction such as frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead creases and neckbands.
IS BOTOX® RIGHT FOR ME?
A Botox® procedure is for patients who are looking to temporarily treat moderate-to-severe fine lines and wrinkles.
HOW DOES BOTOX® WORK?
Botox® works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces or “quiets” the muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form.
WHERE CAN BOTOX® BE USED?
Botox® successfully treats wrinkles that are caused by muscle contraction; such as frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead creases, neckbands, and wrinkles around the mouth. Botox® can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
WHAT IS A BOTOX® TREATMENT LIKE?
Using a fine needle, Botox® is injected into muscles to improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to the injection, your physician may choose to numb the area with an ice pack and patients might feel a slight stinging with the injection. The entire procedure takes approximately 15 minutes. Most patients are in and out of the office with minimal downtime. Side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising. In order to further minimize patient downtime, please remove the following items from your diet and lifestyle one week prior to treatment:
- Vitamin E
- Omega 3 Fish Oils
- Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, etc.
- Green Tea
- Walnuts
- Almonds
- Salmon
